Covering posts from 0800 ET October 17 to 0800 ET October 18. Sources: 168 geospatial feeds.
Quiet day across the feeds. Only two substantive posts landed in the window, so this is a short highlights list instead of the usual three topics and five posts.
1. weeklyOSM 847 — weeklyOSM The weekly OpenStreetMap roundup covers October 8 to 14. Two graffiti tagging proposals are open for voting until October 26. One would add shop=graffiti for stores selling spray cans and street art supplies, and the other would add leisure=graffiti_wall for places where spraying is legal. The issue also covers Know Your Mapper, a web app that explores an OSM mapper's editing sessions and approximate areas of activity. The OpenClimbing team has also filed a second bot proposal to clean up climbing tags, with help from Mateusz Konieczny. → weeklyOSM 847
2. Rain from Orbit, Part 3: The Signal Eats Itself — Earth Observation on Medium This is the third installment in an illustrated series on spaceborne rain radar, following Part 2 on the two boxes of rain a radar can't tell apart. It explains attenuation, why the classical correction blows up exactly when rain is heaviest, and how GPM gets around the problem by measuring the ground. It's a rare technical explainer on sensor physics, a topic the feeds seldom cover in depth. → Rain from Orbit, Part 3: The Signal Eats Itself
